Here’s a tour of the features and use of the QueensNYC event calendar.
You can browse through all the events, but you might want to use the category filter to look for specific kinds of events.
You can also filter by date (this week, this month, or choose just the dates you want). Many events are free and you see just these by choosing “Free”.
The date and time, cost, address, and a link to a map of the event’s location are shown for each listing.
If you click on the venue, you will be directed to a special venue page that gives the venue address, map, and all events listed for that venue.
You can share an event listing that you found or post it yourself on social networks to spread the word beyond QueensNYC.
To become a member of QueensNYC which allows you to add events, comment on the blog, and bookmark them to your member profile, click Register on the menu bar.
You’ll be prompted for an email and username that you can use to login in the future.
Your member profile shows all your comments on blog posts, events you have both posted and marked, as well as the people you follow and who follow you on QueensNYC.
If you are logged in as a member, you can “Mark” an event to add it to your personal profile page. The event will be labeled as “Following.” You can click to unfollow.
Here are the steps to adding your own event (you must be a member to do so). First, click “Add an event.”
Fill out the event’s name and a description (for example, the event title, sponsoring organization, or activities could go here).
Select the date and time. If your event repeats, you can select how often it repeats and on what days of the week and when it ends.
Then select your event’s category and sub-category so it can be easily searched for once it’s posted on the QueensNYC calendar.
Fill in the event cost. If it’s a free event, make sure to click the box so the event is listed when visitors search specifically for free events.
Next fill out the venue information. These fields will automatically be filled out. If the information is incorrect or not available you can fill it in yourself.
Including the event website and a contact email or phone number might be a good idea, but not required.
Add a photo to illustrate the listing. You can upload a photo from your computer, or use one from the web. Again, a photo is not required but is a good idea to help make your event stand out.
When you’re all set, select “Submit Event” and your listing will be posted on the events calendar for everyone to check out. If you don’t see it right away, relax and give it a minute.
If you want to edit or update an event after it’s posted, you can do so from your profile. Click “Events Added” and choose the event you want to edit.
From here you can “Edit” or “Remove” events that you have added, or “Clone” an event if you are adding a similar event listing and only need to change a few items, like the description or location.
Once you have made changes, click “Submit Event” and it will update your event listing on the QueensNYC calendar.
We write many posts on the QueensNYC blog about what’s going on in Queens, so please add great events and give us something to write about. The QueensNYC Event Calendar can be found here. If you’d like to add an event, please create an account and get started.
