Celebrate July 4th with live music and outdoor films at Socrates

The_American_Experience Socrates

Rooftop Films is hosting a short film series called The American Experience at Socrates Sculpture Park tomorrow, marking the beginning of the Outdoor Cinema 2012 series at the park. The screening of the movies begins at 9:30 PM, but get there early for live music by Arturo En El Barco and Dustin Wong at 7PM plus a live stream of the Macy’s fireworks display. Local restaurants will be serving their specialties out of artist Rirkrit Tiravanija‘s outdoor art installation.

By touching upon a variety of themes, the nine films in the series commemorate the “diversity, daring and charm” of the country. For example, Month One chronicles the beginning of the Occupy Wall Street movement in the city, while Thread brings to light a kite festival in Dyker Heights, organized by Pakistani Americans to remember their roots.

Music, movies, art, food, AND fireworks? Looks to be a great way to spend July 4th. See our event listing for venue information.
