This week in Long Island City, Flushing: Irish Dancing Classes, Studio Square Party and Free Shakespeare in the Park

Yes, Mondays are not exactly the favorite day of the week for some of us. But then again, it does start the week—a week of fun events, if you are in Queens! Our event calendar is choc-a-bloc with a variety of things to do this week, and here are our best picks for this week:

Irish Dancing Classes at the New York Irish Center: How about some luck of the Irish to rub off on you as you start the week? There’s probably nothing that can better boost your spirits than some good old-fashioned dance—and Irish dance at that! The New York Irish Center in Long Island City, known for its “céad míle fáilte” spirit, has Irish dance classes for both children and adults taught every Monday at 6 p.m. by the legendary Niall O’Leary, a former all-Ireland and World Champion. And don’t worry if you think you have two left feet—there are classes for beginners as well as champions here.

10K Likes Party at The Garden @ Studio Square: It has been called one of the top beer gardens in New York City, and now, Studio Square is showing its appreciation to its fans by hosting a party on Tuesday at 5 p.m. to celebrate reaching 10,000 likes on its Facebook page. That is indeed a huge number, and it befits the expansive space of this Long Island City beer garden which can host about 2,500 people. Make sure you arrive early for this party, and show them that you do “like” them on Facebook—and you get a fabulous $35 ticket that gives you unlimited beer, sangria, wine and even a meal ticket. Yep—this is one party that you’ll be glad you came early for!

Free Shakespeare in the Park: Comedy of Errors: Think Shakespeare in the Park was only a Manhattan phenomenon? Think again. A Comedy of Errors, one of the bard’s most famous plays, comes to life in the Flushing Meadows Corona Park at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday. A production of the non-profit Queens-based arts organization, Hip to Hip Theatre Company, this performance will be performed under the open skies and promises to be fun for the whole family. Fun fact: the company’s name, “Hip to Hip,” is a phrase penned by Shakespeare for—you guessed it, A Comedy of Errors.
