Some say that there is a dearth of musical events in Queens, but we think they can’t be further from the truth – and these events from our events calendar should prove the naysayers otherwise. Here’s to a very musical weekend!

Elvis Aloha from Seaside – Today marks the 35th anniversary of the death of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. But for all you lucky people in Queens, the King will be making a reappearance in the living world… or at least, a version of him does! The normally quiet interiors of the Queens Library at 116-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard will resound with some of the best tunes in the evening today when Bob Wilson as Elvis grooves and croons your favorite rock numbers, including Jailhouse Rock, Teddy Bear and more.

Bachata Night – If you have not been introduced to the rustic romanticism of the Dominican music form called bachata, then this show presented by Queens Theater as part of its 2012 Latino Cultural Festival may be exactly what you need. On Saturday night, the “superstars of Bachata:” Andy Andy, Henry Santos and 24 Horas, all come together for a stage performance that’s guaranteed to be perfect Friday night entertainment. For a sample of what to expect, check out these videos of these stars here, here and here.

Broadway Blockbusters – There’s nothing like the razzle and dazzle of Broadway to put fun in your Saturday night, and now you can have that feeling of spectacle right here at Flushing Town Hall! Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Broadway Blockbusters returns to the Town Hall stage to perform a medley of great songs from all your favorite hits, including The Wizard of Oz, Les Miserables and Anything Goes. The show, which promises to be both a visual and musical treat, will benefit The Josephine Foundation.

Ukulele Social – There’s something unmistakably inviting and social about the music that a ukulele plays, and so, the name of this event seems extremely apt! This Sunday, Ukulele Social will be bringing together uke players from all over Astoria and beyond to the last day of the Astoria Park Shore Fest. Join in the “participatory uke-acracy” to learn and play this amazing instrument. Early birds to this event get to also sample the Ukulele Social Pineapple Sorbet, a special creation by Long Island City ice-cream shop, Malu.
