Opening: Midsummer Nights One Act Festival at The Secret Theatre – Start the weekend with some of the great theater available in Queens, as a ten-day theater festival gets underway today. The Secret Theater’s Midsummer Nights will pit teams of actors, playwrights and directors against each other’s one-act plays. The winner will be decided at the Finals next Saturday, September 1, with cash prizes and trophies on the line.

Rocky McLuau at Rocky McBride’s – Summer is almost over, but it’s not gone yet. Celebrate the last weekend of August at Friday’s beach-themed “Rocky McLuau” in Astoria at Rocky McBride’s. There are plenty of drink specials (like $6 pina coladas and blue Hawaiians), free barbecue, and a DJ after 10pm to help you dance the night away. Come in a Hawaiian shirt or grass skirt for the first free shot of the evening.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day and Stadium Show – This is the biggest summer event for kids of all ages in Queens, as Saturday’s Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day celebrates the start of the 2012 US Open tournament on Monday, 8/27. There will be games, tennis classes, and plenty of activities for an exciting weekend. And don’t forget the star-studded Stadium Show, with this year’s headliners The Wanted and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Open Flushing with Jack Eichenbaum – Continue the US Open celebration on Sunday with a walking tour of Flushing led by Queens Borough Historian Jack Eichenbaum. The tour will feature the cultural and commercial highlights, and the history of the area under Dutch and English colonial rule. Most importantly, Eichenbaum will tips and suggestions to the tremendous food options available in Flushing’s Chinatown.
