While at the Community Board 1 meeting last night, we got wind of a new spot opening up on Ditmars Blvd in Astoria, called The Thirsty Koala. Their name showed up on the list of September Liquor License Applications available to all at the CB meeting. Turns out it’s going to be a place that serves Australian-inspired food. From the The Thirsty Koala Facebook page:

Set to open by the end of November 2012, The Thirsty Koala is an Australian inspired artisan restaurant, bar and cafe. We hope to bring a bit of Oz to the denizens of our beloved Astorian community with our fresh, natural and organic offerings.

They’ll be in the old Spiced location at 35-12 Ditmars Blvd (GMAP). Astoria hasn’t seen any restaurants having to do with Australian food, so this is an exciting new development.
