Good news for those who are looking to plant a tree on their property. According to Build It Green!NYC, they along with the Western Queens Compost Initiative, have partnered with the New York Restoration Project’s MillionTreesNYC program to give away 100 trees to Queens residents this fall.

Interested? Sign up ASAP to reserve your tree, then select from the different species of trees available – you have a choice of American Persimmon (this really is a fruit tree), Serviceberry, Common Witchhazel, and Blackgum. There is more information on the reservation page about the trees as well as planting requirments.

If you successfully reserve a tree, you can pick it up on Sunday, October 14th between 11am and 1pm, at the Build It Green!NYC reuse center in far western Astoria (GMAP).

Unlike with the FruiTrees program, the tree from this program must be planted in a place on your property where you have permission to do so. You also are prohibited from planting your tree along streets, in city parks, in containers, or on roofs. It also must be planted in the 5 boroughs.
