The NY Daily News reports that the Louis Armstrong House Museum (GMAP) has hired their first curator, David Reese, who took on the position in early August. Prior to this job, he had been the curator at Gracie Mansion (GMAP) for four NYC mayors – Ed Koch to Mayor Bloomberg – as well as the resident director of Virginia’s Gunston Hall, George Mason’s historic home (GMAP). Reese’s duties as Louis Armstrong House curator include overseeing daily operations and capital projects, and preservation of the site.

He says he has always been a fan of both Armstrong’s trumpet playing and vocal stylings. He also loves the authenticity of the interior furnishings, which is one of the things that really attracted him to the house.

Louis Armstrong House Executive Director Michael Cogswell is thrilled that Reese has joined the museum staff as curator – “To have a museum professional of his caliber and to have him dedicated to the site is a big step forward for us.”

If you would like to visit the Louis Armstrong House Museum, it is open for tours Tuesday-Sunday.
