The Queens Gazette reports that Food Bazaar (42-02 Northern Blvd – GMAP) will fill the space left by Pathmark, which closed in late August 2012. A local message board has been filled with speculation for months as to what might move in there – Wegmans and Trader Joe’s were the favorite ideas – after hearing back in June about this Pathmark closing. The new tenants believe shoppers “will be very happy with the new (Food Bazaar) supermarket and all it will offer.”

Kevin Bay, the VP of BOGOPA Service Corporation – the company behind the Food Bazaar chain – says they have “major renovation” plans for the space, which covers 61,500 square feet; the underground parking lot is also due for renovations. They expect these changes will turn the store into a “glistening new, state-of-the-art supermarket featuring a wide variety of produce, a bakery, fresh fish market and shelves stocked with items sure to please families, foodies and amateur chefs.”

Renovations will likely take 4-5 months and the new Food Bazaar will open in early 2013.
