Halloween is almost upon us! And since it falls mid-week (Wednesday, srsly?), most of the partying will be happening this weekend. There’s plenty to do here in Queens – parties, costume competitions, dog parades, walking tours, scary movies, zombies, and more. Here is our list of events for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Halloween. Click through each event for more information. 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26

Dead or Alive: Halloween at NYSCI – Pumpkin Chucking – Watch as pumpkins are thrown hundreds of feet in the air by our 19-foot-tall catapult.

Halloween Spirits Tasting  – Indulge your inner mad scientist/ mixologist and come by to kick off your Halloween weekend with some of our coolest new artisinal spirits at a free spirits tasting.

Haunted Lantern Tours – Every Halloween, a haunted shipwreck brings ghosts and ghouls to the historic Battery. The Urban Park Rangers will be leading the way through this fright fest. Bring your flashlight, but leave your fear at home.

Silent Scream: Live Music Accompanies 1923 Film Nosferatu – Evan Mazunik will premiere an original score to the silent film “Nosferatu” with his group ZAHA at Sunnyside Reformed Church on Friday, Oct 26, 2012 at 8pm (doors at 7:30pm). The show is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $15.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27

Halloween Pet Parade – Costume contest, workshops on nutrition and training.

Starts at Skillman Pets and goes to Windmuller Park, Sunnyside, Saturday, October 27th, 2012, 11:00am – 2:00pm | FREE

Halloween Walking Tour – Celebrate the spirits of Halloween as we share the stores and legend of this historic waterway. Join us for a tour of murder and mystery along the Long Island City waterfront.

Pumpkin Patch – Enjoy wandering through the planting fields to find your favorite pumpkin. Price of pumpkin is based on pumpkin size.

The Amazing Maize Maze – Enjoy getting lost in our 3 acre interactive corn maze. The adventure begins with a stalk talk to prepare you for the challenge of finding clues, solving puzzles and making your way out of the maze.

Dead or Alive: Halloween at NYSCI – Join us for a spooky and spirited, do-it-yourself twist on Halloween and the Day of the Dead. Bats, catapults, pumpkin sculpting, piatas, papel picado, and Halloween-inspired robots are all part of the celebration. Most activities are free with NYSCI admission. Some projects and shows require a small materials fee.

New York Hall of Science, Flushing, Saturday, October 27th, 2012, 12:00pm – 9:00pm | $11

Halloween Party and Costume Contest – Join the Astoria Park Alliance and Green Shores NYC in celebrating Halloween. Trick or Treat & Compete for prizes for best costume! People of all ages and their pets are welcome to the 1st Annual Astoria Park Halloween Party!

See It Big! Film Series Horror Movie Halloween Extravaganza – Two weekends of scary movies, including Hitchcock’s The Birds at 4:30 pm and John Carpenter’s The Thing at 7 pm.

Long Island City Horror Film Festival – The Long Island City Horror Film Festival at 5Pointz and Local Project Art Space is featuring selected short films chosen from an Open Call earlier this year. 23rd Annual Children’s Halloween Parade – The 23rd Annual Children’s Halloween Parade kicks off on Wednesday, October 31st at 5 pm on 89th Street along 37th Avenue. Participants line up at 4:30 pm. Marching bands from I.S. 145 and I.S. 230 will be performing as part of the festivities.
