Live Music – Flor de Toloache – Live music Fridays continue at The Queens Kickshaw with the Mariachi band, Flor de Toloache. They are the first and only established all-female mariachi band founded in New York City in 2008 by Mireya I. Ramos. They are 9 members who play violin, trumpet, guitarron (bass), vihuela (5 string guitar), and guitar. In addition, each members’ cultural background adds even more diversity, with band members spanning the globe from Puerto Rico, to Mexico, Germany, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. Cider Week Tap Takeover is still in place that night at the Kickshaw, so this is a great opportunity to taste some amazing ciders.

Halloween Harvest Festival – Saturday brings us this annual fall fest at Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria/LIC. There’s a whole roster of activities for the day, including artist-led costume-making workshops, face painting, live music, a canine costume contest, and harvest foods will also be for sale. The event goes from 11am-3pm and happens rain or shine.
Pumpkin Carving and Hocus Pocus – Fun times in the form of pumpkins and movies are the focus of Sunday night at Astoria’s Hell Gate Social. At 9pm they will screen “the greatest movie Sarah Jessica Parker ever starred in, Hocus Pocus.” They’ll also be carving pumpkins while the movie is playing. If you bring your own pumpkin (they will have very limited quantities to share, so it’s best to bring your own), you’ll get a free shot of “The Jackolantern,” a creamy, pumpkin-flavored, boozy holiday drink.
