We enjoyed looking at this cool map that the NY Times published illustrating the presidential vote results, precinct by precinct. Some of the observations they made regarding Queens are:

  • Predominantly black neighborhoods, like those in southeast Queens, voted for Obama almost unanimously.
  • Predominantly East Asian precincts voted heavily for Obama.
  • Predominantly white precincts, like Middle Village, were split almost evenly. White precincts in northeast Queens voted for Obama by only a small number.
  • Obama did the worst in Orthodox Jewish area such as Kew Gardens Hills.
  • Romney won the precincts in Howard Beach and Belle Harbor.

It is also evident that more demographically mixed neighborhoods, especially in western Queens, voted for Obama. Additional areas of Queens that favored Romney are out along the western and eastern ends of the Rockaways, and Broad Channel.

Do these results surprise you? Or confirm your expectations? Let us know in the comments or via twitter at @queensnycity.
