Here’s a look back into October and the top five posts from that month.

5. Do you know where the border between Queens and Brooklyn lies?

What actually divides Queens and Brooklyn? There’s no great wall or border patrol to mark the line between Brooklyn and Queens. The Queens-Brooklyn border issue has been confounding the two boroughs, especially residents of Ridgewood and Bushwick, for hundreds of years.

4. Hurricane Sandy is coming to Queens (and beyond)

As you are no doubt aware, we’ve got a hurricane nipping at our heels. Hurricane Sandy is on its way here and it looks bad – and it will become even worse because it’s scheduled to have a meetup with a Nor’easter – the collision of these two storms have caused some weather folks to nickname the whole thing, “Frankenstorm” – this is ironic especially since we are so close to Halloween. “Turduckenstorm” has also made an appearance as well – a storm within a storm.

3. The Rockaways and Hurricane Sandy

We expect, because of their location and shape, that the Rockaways will possibly get hit harder than a lot of NYC during the wrath of Hurricane Sandy. They were told to evacuate yesterday afternoon, as they are in Zone A.

2. Queens hurricane evacuation centers

Hurricane Sandy is causing the city to order some mandatory evacuations. Here is a list of Queens evacuation centers – there are 16 of them available to those who have been asked to leave their homes.

1. We went to the Astoria Bier & Cheese soft opening yesterday

On Saturday afternoon, we stopped by the new Astoria Bier & Cheese shop – they had their soft opening yesterday and we were pleased to see that they were doing brisk business throughout the day (we stopped by twice). The staff was in good spirits, friendly, and happy to let us sample the cheeses we were interested in, and answer questions about the beer, too.
