We’ve learned from DNAinfo that the Astoria ski slope project that could have been at Astoria Park this winter has been cancelled. The reason: Hurricane Sandy tore up – and not in a good way – Astoria Park. A number of trees fell and fallen branches have also accumulated. City Councilman Peter Vallone said about the cancellation:

“Following the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, the Parks Department has informed City Parks Foundation (CPF) that the planned Astoria Park Ski Program will need to be canceled, in order for the department to focus all its energy and efforts on repairs and cleanups.”

Still, there is a lot of support for the project and the organizers hope to implement it in 2014.

Bummer, dude.
