NY 1 reported and the DOT issued a press release about alternate side parking, which is now in place in the entire city as of Monday, December 17, 2012. This means the folks in storm damaged areas in Brooklyn and Queens will have to figure out how to integrate this new element in their daily lives. The parts of Queens this affects are in the Rockaways, in the neighborhoods of Broad Channel, Breezy Point, Belle Harbor, Neponsit, Bayswater, Edgemere, Rockaway Park, Rockaway and Far Rockaway.

Alternate side parking had been suspended throughout the city after Hurricane Sandy, and reinstated in most parts on Wednesday, November 14. A few particularly damaged areas were exempt until now. The DOT says about the reinstatement in the Rockaways, “The reinstatement of ASP regulations will allow for necessary street maintenance as storm recovery efforts in these areas continue.”
