Citi Bike will arrive in LIC at the end of 2013, thanks to Hurricane Sandy delaying the project

Hurricane Sandy is the ridiculous gift that keeps on giving, this time affecting the arrival of the Citi Bike program to NYC, since it damaged the bike share equipment (the elements that involved electrical components) that was stored in the flooded Brooklyn Navy Yard office. Before the storm, Citi Bike was slated to be up and running in the city in March 2013; it’s now going to start in May 2013 for the “densest and most geographically contiguous parts” of Manhattan and Brooklyn. LIC won’t be gathered into the program until the end of 2013.

A statement from DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan about the changes:

“DOT has worked around the clock to restore vital transportation links following the storm and that includes putting Citi Bike on the road to recovery. Despite the damage, New York will have the nation’s largest bike share system up and running this spring.”

Here is where the eventual LIC bike stations will be located – Hunters Point, Court Square, and Dutch Kills sections will all have bike stations:
