We’ve learned that the old M. Wells space – that old diner at 21-01 49th Avenue (GMAP) – is going to become a sports bar called Adelfia. The new tenants chose to do some renovations inside and also needed to repair the north wall in the process. It will remain a one story building – as of this writing, no vertical addition is planned for the structure.

The interior has been designed by Terzis Architects, a local firm based in LIC. Their work runs the gamut, from hotels and motels, to medical facilities, to religious buildings, to diners and restaurants. They’ve designed the Foursome Diner in Brooklyn, Burger Heaven in Manhattan, and the Lobster Box on City Island.

Adelfia has no real online presence – not an inkling on social media – except for records of permits and such. And while we do not expect that they will be as experimental as M. Wells was (and is, over at MOMA PS1), we are glad to see something open up in that space, which has looked a bit derelict since M. Wells left. The locals we’ve talked are also happy to see new business come to the area.
