Goodbye, Lounge 47

We were sorry to hear that Lounge 47 on Vernon Blvd in LIC will close its doors on January 15. They’ve had quite a run – 8 years – despite some liquor license drama. So stop on by and taste the Julie Powell-influenced menu, and a cocktail before they close. We wish everyone involved with running Lounge 47 the best of luck in their new endeavors.

Greetings from South Queens

A new CD is out called Greeting from South Queens, “a collection of 21 works from musicians in Howard Beach, the Rockaways, Ozone Park and Broad Channel who were slammed by Superstorm Sandy.” Musicians include singer Michael Benedetto, Walker Hornung, and Frank Persico, all from the Rockaways area. It’s currently on iTunes and CDBaby, priced at $10. Proceeds from the sale of the album go toward hurricane relief.

We love that Anthony Bourdain loves Flushing

Over the past weekend we came across a couple of video gems of Anthony Bourdain visiting Flushing‘s Chinatown (including the amazing Golden Mall) and the Ganesh Temple a little further out into town. It’s very satisfying to see people enjoy the food in our fair borough so much.
