We walked by the old OTB space on 31st Street in Astoria that is transforming into a sports bar/lounge space called The Sweet Spot. Check out the new – for use of a better word – marquee, complete with lightbulbs around the bottom. It makes it look like a theater – such a difference from before. Here’s a shot from this morning:

And here’s what it used to look like:

Such a difference! With the plywood up, it looks so much smaller.

In case you missed what this place is going to turn into, it will be a kind of sports bar/lounge hybrid (we wrote about it on the January 9th QNYC Evening Edition newsletters – have you subscribed yet?) – the owner, Harry Panagiotopoulos says it will be “something different than anything in New York City, period.” Apparently a lot of alcohol will be involved, but also a foot bridge built over a VIP room, and live plants actually growing out of the ground inside. We are super curious to see the end product!

UPDATE – shuttered OTB on 31st Street in Astoria to be a sports bar [QNYC]
Shuttered OTB on 31st Street in Astoria might become a lounge [QNYC]
