Here at QueensNYC we love to talk about what’s shiny and new, but we are also fascinated with what came before, too. Over the weekend we came across The Old New York Page on Facebook. Sure, there’s a lot of Manhattan – and the photos are great – but Brooklyn and Queens are also featured from time to time. We are particularly smitten with this shot of the bungalows in the Rockaways from 1910.

A couple of comments from the Page administrator:
“Big summer destination for a long time. Unfortunately the Rockaway Boardwalk was mostly destroyed in Hurricane Sandy but it will be back!”
“My dad used to go there as a kid in summers they would rent a bungalow. Must have been nice.”
The page is run by Asher Sarnoff, a native New Yorker.
We also love this shot of the Queensboro Bridge in the background, kids swimming in the East River in the foreground – the photo is probably from the early part of the 20th century (the Queensboro Bridge was completed in 1909 – here’s a great site on it)

those bungalows looked great then,,,, but, many times i passed them,, and they were shacks,,,horrible,,,even in coney island,, and down the bay,,, they were so run down,,, not for humans to live in,,, even if it was for the summer;s,,,,,,,
