DNAinfo reports that three major unions support the construction of a Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium coming to Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Those unions would be The Hotel Trades Council, the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York and service employees union 32BJ SEIU. New jobs is the reason they are enthused about it – MLS believes that the stadium construction could create up to 2,300 construction jobs, and then when it is up and running, the stadium could provide 160 full-time jobs and 750 part-time jobs. And not only that, but nearby restaurants, bars and retail stores could see an increase in business, leading them to potentially hiring more employees.

MLS spokeswoman Risa Heller says they are thrilled to have support of the unions. Unions also say they have been working with MLS from the start of the stadium proposal, so they believe the League is legit in its dedication to bringing jobs to the area – and good jobs at that. There are some folks in the local community that are concerned that the jobs will not be of quality, but both the Unions and MLS insist that this is an incorrect assessment of the situation.

  1. Flushing Meadow is a toxic dump of dioxin, arsenic, lead and asbestos from the Manhattan ashes used to create it from a swamp. The swamp should be dredged to broaden Flushing Bay port and expand Laguardia Airport. If you want trees, buy a house so don’t expect me to feed your scavenger pigeons. Donkey Poodle was a Clown, known as Phoney Tony, full of crap from his baloney.
