The folks from Pharaoh’s Army Fitness contacted us about their new gym opening up in Forest Hills in early April. But this is no ordinary gym – you won’t find barbells, stability balls, or cardio equipment. Instead, it’s a relatively open space with Monkey Bars, TRX’s, a lane of turf for sled pushing, and kettlebells. In their words, “Kinda like playground for adults.”

Here’s more info and why have structured the gym as they have:

But why the lack of equipment? There is a reason you don’t need all of that equipment to build a healthier, happier, more efficient, and sexier you. And it’s all about going back to the basics. Take children who play outside all the time as a great example – they can lift, push, and pull much more than many of their adult counterparts, if you analyze them pound for pound. Why? Because they play. They use their own bodies; they jump, crawl, bend, and reach. And they do it all the time. The consistency of movement makes them better at it than those of us who sit all day long. So they become faster, stronger, better, and leaner.

Of course, strength is important, so Ari Harris, owner of PAF, incorporates one of the most tried and true methods of strength – the kettlebell. In addition, Ari has added TRX to the mix. The reason is simple. It helps prepare your body for the movements required in the other disciplines.

Intriguing, for sure.
