DNAinfo reports on Snowdonia, a trappist-style gastropub coming to Astoria, that we reported on last October. More details have surfaced – it will open in May at 34-55 32nd Street (GMAP). This is the old Lucas Steakhouse space; originally they thought they might open in the space that currently is home to El Boqueron, a Spanish tapas restaurant, but the old Lucas location worked out better.

It remains a beer-oriented menu, with beer making its way into some of the food, as well as plenty to drink. Co-owner and Astorian Carrie Spiller says, “The concept is that we’re cooking with beer. At least 98 percent of the menu is going to be prepared with some of the beer that we’re featuring.” Her business partners include her husband Tom Davies, and Carlos Beltran (not the baseball player), who has also worked at nearby Sunswick. Their chef will be Will Lubold, formerly of ‘inoteca on the Lower East Side.

They want the space to be warm and inviting, and have described their ideal vibe as “ski lodge-monastery.” They plan to have ten beers on tap, some in cans, beer cocktails, and a handful of good-quality bourbons as well.
