Our friends at Edge of the City blog updated us on the Station House gastropub coming to Forest Hills – it will be in the space next to the McDonald’s which at one point was home to a bank and then Marianella’s Taquiera (106-11 71st Avenue – GMAP). The owners of the popular George Keeley’s on Amsterdam Ave are also behind the Station House. Apparently George Keeley is big on craft beer, and on the Station House Facebook page they call themselves a “whiskey den.”

Here’s a shot of the status of the interior, dated March 20, 2013:

In that same blog post, they link to an article with info about pubs and drinking holes coming to the neighborhood. These include the Banter Irish Bar & Kitchen, slated to open in late March or early April at 108-22 Queens Boulevard (Old Vienna Cafe was in that space – GMAP). The owners, Michael Mansfield and Paul Mansfield, are part of the family that is behind popular Woodside pub Cuckoo’s Nest. They’ll be putting together an “Irish-centric menu” for Banter.

Then there’s the The Flying Pig, which should open in mid-April at 70-28 Austin Street (Johnny Rockets used to be in that space – GMAP). The owners, Declan and Natasha Morrison, also own the  successful Taphouse Sports Bar on Austin Street and Blackwater Inn on  Metropolitan Ave. They’ll be serving dishes like meatballs with smoked tomato coulis, seasonal fish, and oysters, and they want to cook seasonally and use local purveyors.

They’ll also have well-crafted cocktails like this: “Whiskey and scotch will be infused with herbs, cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves to provide a nice sweetness and a hint of warmth.”

Forest Hills, you are in for some great new spots to get your drink on!
