The St. John’s women’s basketball team is going dancing for a fourth consecutive season. Despite dealing with the adversity of welcoming in a new coach and losing a vital player to a season-ending ACL tear, the Red Storm find themselves amongst the nation’ elite once again after being awarded an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. To add to the joy that Joe Tartamella’s resilient Johnnies are feeling right now, they’ll be playing their opening game in Queens at Carnesecca Arena – the same venue where they play a majority of their home games.

The Red Storm made it a goal at season’s start to qualify for the tournament, as they knew if they received a bid they would be placed in the Bridgeport bracket, where Queens would be one of the playing sites. The Johnnies were selected to the big dance as a No. 10 seed and will be facing off against No. 7 Dayton of the Atlantic-10 Conference.

If Tartamella and co. record a victory in their opening round game, they’ll get to play another game at Carnesecca Arena against the winner of No. 2 Kentucky and No. 15 Navy for a right to head to the Sweet 16.

The Johnnies will take to the hardwood to open up their 2013 tournament campaign on March 24 at 2:35pm.
