Closing Bell: Ten Bucks to Rockaway Beach

Today’s a balmy 70-plus degrees – beach weather! And soon, the Rockabus will once again take you to Rockaway Beach for $10 (or $18 round trip), reports Capital New York. The bus will pick you up from last year’s excursion spot, Williamsburg, as well as new departure points in the Lower East Side and Grand Army Plaza. The beach has become a destination for young people (let’s resist the “h” word until we visit ourselves), and survived a wallop from Superstorm Sandy. All aboard!

  • Really? No departure points in Queens? Only people in Brooklyn and Manhattan have a hard time getting to Rockaway Beach?
I think a lot of people in Queens would really like to have access to a bus service like this. Right now, all I can think of is the Q53 that starts in Woodside and goes all the way to the Rockaways. And that bus gets crowded because it’s a long route and serves a lot of people. It also goes down busy congested streets and boulevards like Roosevelt Ave, Broadway and Woodhaven. So, I think plenty of people would pay the $10 a ride and $18 for round trip just for an easier more comfortable ride out to the beach.
