Preservationists Want to Save Historic Worldport Terminal at JFK

Preservationists hope that Wednesday’s designation of the Worldport terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport as one of the country’s most endangered historic places will revitalize efforts to save it, the Wall Street Journal reported. The terminal was built in 1960 and used by Pan American World Airways until Delta Air Lines acquired the company in 1991. It remained in use under the name Terminal 3 unil May, but now Delta is planning to demolish it because it says that the strucure is obselete because of its small lobby. Space at JFK is tight, making any adaptive reuse more difficult.
