The Crescent Grill opens today in Long Island City. One of our readers, Chaz King, had a preview last night and provided us with a sneak peek at what’s to come:

Someone call the Packard Square cleaners, I need my shirt cleaned. Having just eaten at the newly opened Crescent Grill last night, it is clear that my infant twin boys are not the only ones who need a bib during dinnertime. The mouth-watering flavors had my wife and I “oohing” and “aahing” at each bite, like we never had gone out to eat before. Sadly, in the past few months we hadn’t. But that is all about to change.

Crescent Grill is now open and Queensborough Plaza residents now have a restaurant to call their own within walking distance of the subway, the Crescent Club and Packard Square residences. Crescent Grill’s menu features locally purchased farm-to-table fresh ingredients. “Top Chef” quality presentation and flavors is how I like to describe it. Everything looked good coming out of the kitchen and tasted even better off of our forks. We shared the fantastic seafood chowder soup. We also had a meat/cheese/fruit plate that had some delicious cured meats and some of the freshest figs I’ve ever eaten. The wagyu strip steak and lamb entrees were wonderful.

As you enter the main dining room, the restaurant pays homage to its roots with a huge mural of the area lit from behind. Hues of browns throughout the restaurant aid in making you feel at home as you sit in their comfy chairs. As you gaze upon the left hand wall, local artists’ artwork is prominently displayed, showcasing a wide range of styles from abstract, conceptual, surrealism, to minimalism.
It truly is amazing. Just a few short weeks ago my pregnant wife and I were quoted in the New York Times real estate section complaining about how we needed more local options for food. And while we still don’t have a supermarket, at least we have a restaurant to call our own. We hope the trend continues as LIC and my family continue to grow.
