Today, a tipster writes in with a question about the Famous Famiglia at the 74th Street/Roosevelt Avenue subway station Jackson Heights. They say, “this Famous Famiglia outpost has been ‘under construction’ for almost a year. Most of the time the lights are off, except one morning months ago when I took this photo.” So what’s up? The MTA Board voted back in 2011 to rent almost 3,000 square feet of space to the pizza joint. Famous Famiglia signed a 20-year lease to operate 24 hours a day out of the previously long-vacant space. So far, they’ve spent two of those 20 years shuttered up. Commenters at Jackson Heights Life seem equally confused regarding any future opening date. Anyone have any intel on this space? UPDATE: A reader wrote in to say that she thought that the delay had something to do with the construction of an elevator between the ground floor and the basement that is required by the lease with the MTA.
