A reader of Forest Hills blog Edge of the City posted this rendering on its Facebook page yesterday of the new two-story building planned for the former site of Alexandra Boutique at 71-53 Austin Street. The blog wonders aloud whether it’s going to be the H&M location rumored to be coming to the neighborhood and we’d have to agree that there’s something pretty H&M-y about the look and feel of the design. Anyone know for sure? GMAP

  1. If it is going to be an H&M, I think that would be a great fit for Forest Hills. FH has been changing a lot in recent years, as more young people have been moving to the neighborhood from Manhattan and Brooklyn. In the last few months, 3 new gastropubs have opened in FH–Station House, the Flying Pig and Banter. All three have been very successful. In the last couple of years, there have been some other great places that have opened in FH, including La Boulangerie (an amazing french bakery/cafe) and Bareburger.

For those looking for an affordable neighborhood that is increasingly upscale and is convenient to Manhattan (only 20 minutes to midtown on the E and F trains), they should definitely check out Forest Hills.
