The NY Daily News reports that the Parks Department unveiled its first round of improvements at Highland Park, which straddles the Brooklyn-Queens border. The $7,000,000 project includes new lighting, restored pathways, wheelchair-accessible entry points and new fencing. The project also connects the park to the Brooklyn-Queens Greenway. As the News points out, a larger plan to utilize the area surrounding the Ridgewood Reservoir is years away, and the Parks Department isn’t planning to go ahead with a controversial proposal to clear some of the reservoir for new ballfields.
