MillionTreesNYC is coming to Rockaway Community Park! This Saturday, October 19th 1,200 volunteers will gather to plant 20,000 trees as part of the MillionTreesNYC Fall 2013 Planting Day. According to the press release, this is the largest single-site planting ever hosted by MillionTreesNYC. The new trees will provide a buffer to the adjacent Rockaway neighborhood by protecting against wind and rain, helping catch storm water runoff and preventing erosion. The event will take place from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a speaking program at 10:00 am. If you’d like to be a volunteer for the planting day, go right here.
