Council Member Donovan Richards just allocated $50,000 to beautify a stretch of Merrick Boulevard through Laurelton, reports Queens Courier. The money went to the Doe Fund, a nonprofit that works with formerly homeless, incarcerated or troubled individuals and helps them find employment. The Doe Fund has a program, Ready Willing & Able, that employees individuals to clean up city streets. Council Member Richards’ money allows a crew of two people to work Fridays and Sundays, from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, on Merrick Boulevard from 219th Street to Francis Lewis Boulevard. Richards hopes to extend the program to other areas in his district in the future.
