34-46-vernon-boulevard-rendering-100213

All signs point to development coming to the huge empty lot at 34-46 Vernon Boulevard, between 34th and 35th avenues and near the border of LIC and Astoria. The above rendering is now up on the construction fence, along with a DOB permit issued in late September for shoring and excavation work. What’s less clear are the specifics behind the development at hand. This DOB application (it’s unclear if it’s the most recent plan) calls for an 18-story building with 232 units. But in this 2010 article from The Real Deal, the developers stated that they planned to build two 20-story residential towers here, dubbed “Alma Towers.” At that point, construction snags and the recession caused development delays. The rendering, however, gives the distinct impression that two towers are still slated for this site.

The sign on the construction fence lists the lot owner as Davidson Equities and gives an anticipated completion date of 2016. When we called the phone number listed, it led us to Alma Realty, who are linked to the nearby Astoria Cove development. No one from Alma has returned our call yet. Know any more details?
