The owner of the Knockdown Center, a concert, wedding and gallery venue operated out of a former glass factory on Flushing Avenue, is thinking about applying for a liquor license. Organizers currently secure temporary permits for each event. But as the Daily News reports, “Residents and lawmakers, leary of booze-fueled revelers spilling into the streets, are already flooding the agency with letters opposing the request.” The community is concerned about the size of the site, 2.5 acres, and the number of people it can hold. They also point out that the DOB recently rejected an application to convert Knockdown into a place of assembly for up to 5,000 people. As for the folks behind Knockdown, they say they’ve been a good neighbor to the surrounding residential areas. They do not plan to host concerts every single night — they are also interested in hosting weddings, reunions and civic association meetings. Knockdown’s owner has yet to file the application with the State Liquor Authority.
