Yikes — less than one month after opening, the Department of Buildings ordered the owner of The Cliffs at LIC to shut down his premises because he lacked a valid certificate of occupancy. LIC Post reports that the climbing and rec facility is now closed and will likely remain that way until December. The DOB inspection came after an anonymous complaint accusing the The Cliffs of violating city zoning laws; the DOB ultimately dismissed this complaint but found that the business didn’t have a valid C of O. As for the next steps, the DOB will bring a third party structural engineer to check out the site and review the work done on the building. Then a DOB inspector will have to sign off on the report. As for those who already signed up for membership at the Cliffs, they will be credited for the lost days.
