600-Seat Expansion Planned for Woodside Middle School IS 125

The School Construction Authority plans to expand Woodside middle school IS 125, located at 46-02 47th Avenue. Sunnyside Post reports that the $50,000,000 addition will include a cafeteria, gym and several classrooms — enough space for 600 extra seats. Currently, the school is over capacity at 123 percent, and more than 200 students now learn in temporary classroom units in the schoolyard. The temporary classrooms will come down and the SCA will build the expansion where the existing mini school building is located. Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer stated that construction could begin as soon as this year, with the construction timeframe as short as one year.

The school will hold a press conference this Friday to reveal more details. Woodside is also getting a new elementary school, PS 339, on the corner of 58th Street and 39th Avenue.
