Closing Bell: Astoria in 1944

To end this cold, snowy week in Queens, here’s a historic photo of Astoria from Astoria Beat. This shot was taken November 14th, 1944 at Steinway Street and 30th Avenue. The old Astoria Theater (pictured left) closed as a movie theater in 2001. (Here’s a good article on the lost theaters of the neighborhood.) Now it’s a Duane Reade and a New York Sports Club.
