Welcome to a new Q’Stoner food feature, Signature Dish! Once a week we check in with Queens restaurants and ask the owners about the all-time favorite dishes they serve. If you know of a dish you’d like to see featured here, please email emily@brownstoner.com.

The spot: Sweet Afton, 30-09 34th Street, Astoria.

The deal: Sweet Afton has become an Astoria institution since it opened in 2010. The pub hosts live bluegrass, jazz and folk on Mondays and hosts Small Batch Cocktail on weekends. The narrow bar space offers space to mingle and backyard garden is a perfect respite in the summer. The bar’s motto is “drink local.”

The dish: The pub serves high-quality, locally sourced foods such as the ever-popular Sweet Afton burger, which uses New York purveyors including Pat LeFreida and Murry’s. However, the real action is from behind the bar. The true Signature Dish is actually a cocktail that combines the best ingredients to create the increasingly popular drink. Sweet Afton bartenders create the popular Pickleback shots by chasing Powers Irish Whiskey with Brooklyn’s McClure’s-brand pickle juice. (The pickle brine is also mixed with Tito’s vodka to create a pickle martini.)
