Carnegie Hall Presents Sofia Rei at Jamaica Performing Arts Center on March 1st

Multi-cultural, multi-faceted, multi-lingual and melodically pure, Sofia Rei is one of the most entertaining, passionate and charismatic vocalists in New York City these days. The native of Argentina sings in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and her band’s rhythms mix the chacarera, zamba and vidala of her birth country with Afro-Peruvian festejo and lando, Afro-Uruguayan candombe, Colombian cumbia and bullerengue and other genres. Add to all that jazz harmonies, electronic sounds and rich improvisations. Rei has toured the world, playing in such venues as Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and Cite de la Musique in Paris. Now she’s heading to Queens. On March 1, Rei will offer a free concert at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center as part of Carnegie Hall Presents, a four-decade-old series which brings top-notch, main-stage artists to community-based organizations throughout the five boroughs.
