This spring, the Department of Transportation will study whether crosswalks are needed along Center Boulevard in Long Island City. LIC Post reports that despite the roadway growing more dangerous as the number of developments and parks in the area increases, the DOT denied crosswalk studies for years. But at a recent Community Board 2 meeting, a DOT rep said they’d go ahead and study the boulevard in May or June with plans to reach a decision to add crosswalks by the end of the summer.

The DOT also plans to convert 5th Street between 46th Road and 50th Avenue into a one-way street this spring. They plan to do the work while students at PS/IS 78Q are on spring break — from April 14th to April 18th — considering that the school is also on 5th Street. In case any delays come along, the DOT will have to wait until summer to make the street one way.
