Community Board 7 approved a variance for a 12-story hotel and a 14-story office tower planned at 36-18 Main Street in Downtown Flushing. Queens Chronicle reports that at the meeting on Monday, the developer asked to reduce the parking requirement from 344 to 305 spots because of the high water table at the site. The board did have some traffic concerns regarding the incoming development, and asked that the developers request a DOT traffic study and the placement of a traffic light on 36th Avenue and Prince Street.

Development plans — which include an office building fronting Main Street, an Intercontinental hotel, underground parking, a two-level spa, shops and a restaurant — will now move on to the Board of Standards and Appeals for approval.
