87-10 85th Street-LOTD

This home in Woodhaven, at 87-10 85th Street, really has some charm going for it. The interior boasts plenty of dark wood detailing, and we love those curved bay windows. The big downside: It’s only two stories and configured as a two-family. Both of the kitchens also look like they need some significant upgrading. There was an open house here over the weekend — did any readers check this place out? It’s asking $645,000.

  1. Overpriced for the neighborhood but a great house, my family has a similar one in neighboring East New York except larger and a taller basement with separate entrance. These were originally built as one family townhomes so it would work a lot better as such. The neighborhood is a good working class neighborhood and sits on the border with Cypress Hills which will most likely be the next hot neighborhood. You have two parks right near by (Highland Park and Forest Park) not too mention a couple of good small playgrounds like 88th street park which has a skate park. If the Queensway ever happens you’ll have that over by the Richmond Hill border. It’s a hidden gem for families who want something between full urban and suburban but can’t afford a barrel front row house in Crown Heights or PLG. The area is more hispanic (a lot of south and central american and of course heavy Puerto Rican and Dominican) west of Woodhaven Blvd and more South asian/west indian east of Woodhaven Blvd. but you still have a lot of the old school italians and irish still in the neighborhood. Nothing creepy just one of the last working class neighborhoods left with historic housing completely off radar to most.
