united-artists-Brandon-closed

Both Edge of the City and Queens Chronicle report on the shuttering of the United Artists Brandon Cinemas, located at 70-20 Austin Street for the past 51 years. It’s final day was last Sunday, ending with a 7:40 p.m. showing of “Disco Singh,” a Bollywood musical.

So what’s to replace the movie theater? A PM Pediatrics urgent medical care location, expected to open this September. The building owner told the Chronicle that he thought the medical center “would be a better option for the site financially.” It’ll be the third urgent care facility to open in the immediate area of the neighborhood. As Edge of the City says: “We lost what could have been an amazing cultural gem as a movie theater showing indie films like Kew Gardens Cinema does when Brandon Cinemas on Austin finally closed its doors, to be replaced by, joy, some type of medical clinic.”
