  1. Addendums to my comments (“Is 15-Story Building Possible at Clinton and Montague in Heights?”) on plans filed to build a 15-story, 185-foot building at 75 Clinton Street:

    1. When the reporter told me that plans had been disapproved by the buildings department, I stated that may indicate a variance may be necessary. In fact, the C5-2A (R10A equivalent) zoning permits buildings as high as 185 feet on “narrow” streets. There are many reasons why plans can be disapproved, but total height does not appear to be the reason here.

    2. My statements about the structure’s ability to support an additional six stories was based on the reporter’s statement that the building was constructed in the 1970s. Not noted was my observation that many older buildings were built so stoutly that it is possible to add floors. Subsequent research indicates that the building was constructed in the early 20th-century and renovated in the ’70s.
