In Queens even the leafy vegetable side dishes are diverse. Get ready to celebrate a time-honored German festival with Asian and Eastern European delicacies this Saturday, when the Voelker Orth Museum hosts Oktoberfest Flushing Style: Kimchi and Sauerkraut. The Flushing historic house honors this traditional fall fiesta — which began as a wedding party for Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria in 1810 — with live music by David Block (below), dancing, warm hospitality, and dishes featuring two takes on pickled cabbage: German sauerkraut and Korean kimchi (above).

This isn’t the only chance to clank steins in the borough this weekend. With help from the restaurant Manor Oktoberfest, The Shops at Atlas Park hosts its version of Oktoberfest on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to great German cuisine, the oompah band Bobby Heckman and the Royal Bavarians performs on Saturday, while Die Schlauberger (aka Alpine Thunder) plays on Sunday. Die Erste Gottscheer Tanzgruppe, an Austrian folk dance troupe, is on the stage at the Glendale mall both days.
