Two local singing groups are looking for some treble, especially with Handel. The Oratorio Society of Queens and the Queens College Choral Society will hold open tryouts this month. More after the jump.

Founded in 1927, the Oratorio Society of Queens consists of roughly 120 altos, sopranos, tenors, and bass singers who perform under the artistic direction of Maestro David Close. This fall, this diverse group — in terms of talent, ethnicity, age, and experience — will rehearse Part I of Handel’s Messiah and various Christmas carols and Hanukkah songs in preparation for its big holiday concert on December 21st.

Founded in 1941, the Queens College Choral Society offers students, faculty, staff, and local music lovers the opportunity to learn and perform choral masterpieces. The society is seeking new members of all voice parts for its 2014-2015 concert season, which features a performance of…Handel’s Messiah this December.

  1. It’s a shame both have rehearsals that are so difficult to get to by mass transit. For many, the only way to get to either would be a train to a bus. Not so terrible, but not ideal when you’re talking about a 10pm after rehearsal commute.
