Snowday is a farm-to-truck experience which has been called “a vehicle for social justice.” First, about 90 percent of the delectables are made with ingredients sourced from New York State and local urban farms. Second, the truck is operated by Drive Change, a nonprofit that trains and employs formerly incarcerated youth in hopes of helping them find work and keeping them out of prison. Plus, there are two LIC reasons to participate. The event is facilitated by The Fortune Society, which is located at 29-76 Northern Boulevard and supports successful re-entry from prison by promoting alternatives to incarceration. And, Fortune teaches a culinary arts class in the Entrepreneur Space, a kitchen incubator at 36-46 37th Street. A new training class just started there, and some of the students will be at the truck.
