It’s no secret that delicious bounty abounds in the borough. In fact, just last week QNS Brownstoner informed on two Restaurant Weeks that are set to take place this month: an entire Queens one and a Sunnyside promotion. Well, now it appears that the cup is overflowing as two additional cuisine celebrations were recently scheduled for next week: a Taiwanese vegetarian fest and a Thai pop-up gig. Deluge Restaurant, which is located in the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel in Flushing, is doing prep work for a four-day Taiwanese vegetarian extravaganza, starting on October 18th. As the Taiwan Tourism Bureau is also organizing the fun, award-winning chefs Chien Wei Shih, Chuan-Yu Kao, and Ching Feng Kao will come to town to make such wonders as Brownsword Mushroom Pot Soup, Fragrant Sauteéd Hedgehog Mushroom, Pumpkin Purée Sweet Soup, Japanese Salad (not kidding, it’s a specialty), and Portuguese Spaghetti (not kidding again, it’s a popular dish over there).

Taiwan is more than 1,400 miles from Thailand, but Elmhurst is only five stops on the 7 train from Flushing. And on October 18th, Pata Paplean Restaurant in the neighborhood’s “Little Bangkok” section will host a special pop-up celebration of Thai cuisine. Chefs Satika Kanchanamusik and Chompoo Nitmai plan to serve eight distinct dishes representing all the regions of their homeland. Plus, they will give away their kitchen secrets during culinary demonstrations.

Taiwan details: Savoring Taiwanese Vegetarian Cuisine, Deluge Restaurant, 135-20 39th Avenue, Flushing, October 18th through October 21st, lunch (noon to 3 pm, $25.95 per person), and dinner (6 pm to 10 pm, $35.95 per person).

Thailand details: Pata Paplean Thai Popup, 76-21 Woodside Avenue, Elmhurst, October 18th, noon session and 5 pm session, $80 (includes one beverage).
