This past May 18th, Flushing Meadows Corona Park hosted a 50th anniversary celebration of the 1964 World’s Fair opening with a full day of activities, including tours, rides, food, various concerts, and a fireworks show. This Sunday, New York City’s fourth largest park will commemorate the closing of the World’s Fair with another full day of fun, including a massive scavenger hunt. More info after jump.

Scavenger hunt participants can compete in teams of 2-6 people. During registration at Queens Museum between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm, team members will receive t-shirts, and each group will get a totebag and a list of clues with a park map. The clues will test participants’ knowledge of the park and the two World’s Fairs (1939 and 1964) it hosted. Thus, the squads will ramble through cultural institutions and monuments, where they will answer questions to get tokens. At 5:30 pm, the teams will return to Queens Theatre, and those with the most tokens will win prizes such as tickets to Rangers games and certificates to restaurants.

For those who are not inclined towards scavenger hunts, the park will also host 50 cent carousel rides; tours of the New York State Pavilion; special offers at the New York Hall of Science, Queens Museum, Queens Zoo and Queens Botanical Garden; a press conference; and other fun. At 6 pm, a Beatles tribute band, Yesterday and Today, will perform. The scavenger winners will be announced from the stage at intermission.
